So…. an existing customer rings me and say… we have moved and want the garden levelled!
confronted with a gradient of 20:1 over 60m its a big task with a mini digger ( limited access) clearance was initially done and old tree stumps removed, digging down in clay is always a lottery and yup a big 150mm land drain came to light, now going to be completely useless at the existing height, a temporary stone fill trench was installed to take away the immediate water, new drains will have to be installed when the conditions allow.
The first and main tier was created before winter set in to allow the sub-soil to start settling before being landscaped in the spring of 2021
This is an ongoing project to be completed in 2021
An old uneven concrete patio was dug out and rebuilt from the subsoil up using fresh hardcore and then a modern Fossil Sandstone slab was laid.
A linear drain was added to assist winter rain run off.
A small evening patio was created at the top of the garden using some of the existing concrete slabs, timber sleepers were added to level things up.
Customer wanted something different to enhance the front of there property, so i suggested a raised planter built out of Purbeck random walling with a power supply duct insert for a water feature, the outside edge had some Porcelain slabs laid with shingle inserts.
Bumpy front lawn removed and replaced with new turf after leveling, a border was created along the sides for a hedge to be planted along with a low maintenance gravel strip.
In the rear courtyard garden the moss riddled lawn was removed and replaced with a quality 20mm Quantock stone over a membrane in the central area and to one side, a timber sleeper raised bed was built to give some height and further shrub beds created to add soft planting.
After Landscaping the last garden for some freinds, i was asked to landscape the new garden on the the recent house purchase.
Well ummm, who hid that huge 10ft deep swimming pool under the decking!!
Great project to get stuck into!
Everything was changed, two levels created allowing the best use of the land new fencing, raised borders , indian sandstone paving, artificial grass laid, shed base, storage area, and even the driveway was widened with new tarmac.
