Phase 2 of a project in Wimborne, previously a Indian sandstone patio was laid over looking the River Stour to the rear garden, the driveway needed completely re-doing after extensive building work was carried out, i’ll let the pictures do the talking, but this did turn out rather well don’t you think…….
A beautiful out-look over the River Stour deserved a nice new patio to view it from!
After many layers of the dreaded concrete found under the existing tired patio was broke up and removed,new levels were graded to form a decent enlarged base to lay some new Umbra grey sandstone, the result transformed the area for many years to come.
An old wall was pulled over to provide a sub-base material for the parking area, new timber sleepers were erected as a support, this was topped off with a compacted layer of 40mm scalpings and dressed up with 20mm shingle. A new decorative panel was installed for privacy with a side access gate.
An old Gravel area at the rear of the property was transformed into a clean slabbed space suitable for outside entertaining, small slabs where left out and in-filled with Quantock 20mm stone to allow the customer to plant groundcover scented plants.
Tired gravel driveway given a fresh look by replacing it with Tarmac planings, a french drain was also installed to take away any surface water.
Old crazy paving removed and a new concrete path laid for better wheelchair access, the old paving will be used in some gabion baskets to the right of the path at a later date for boundary support due to a very deep field ditch on the field side.

Out with the ugly concrete and tired fence, then brought up to date with new block paving complemented with a grey 20mm Quantock stone, a new close board fence replaced the old panels. Lovely customers, thanks for the T’s and cake! Big help from a work colleague on this one.
Well…. this lot took some sorting out! Confronted with a new extension the goal was to construct a new Sandstone patio on one level wrapping around the new extension (which was a converted outbuilding) Easy they said! Really…. what about the 4ft drop in between!. After digging out the excess waste to find the levels a retaining wall was built with concrete blocks at the back and faced up with natural and local flint along with second hand bricks from around the Estate (nightmare for the brickie my brother, as the bricks were of different size) All worked out well in the end with the Garden leveled off and seeded.
Old Tarmac removed, the base was leveled and new type 1 stone added where needed, the surface then was compacted and topped off with 20mm shingle, the dog seem to approve!!
